For this cake I have applied the Spring mesh stencil using American buttercream on American buttercream to achieve this effect.
I first started by colouring my buttercream black. I have used medium consistently American buttercream and (Colour Mill) black gel colour.
Freeze your cake for 20 minutes or until firm. Remove from freezer and place stencil against the cake. Using a spatula apply buttercream on top of stencil until completely covered. Scrape excess off then remove stencil gently.
Tips:
– Colouring will thin down buttercream, this is why I started with medium consistency.
– Return cake to freezer for an additional 5-10 minutes if another section of stencilling is required.
