For this cake I have used the Indigo mesh stencil with American buttercream on American buttercream.
To achieve this effect I started by covering the cake with white American buttercream and chilling.
Once firm to touch, I applied the mesh stencil to the cake and using a spatula covered the stencil with pink American buttercream. I then used a cake scraper across the stencil and removed.
Some tips I would give is to make sure the cake is firm to touch (this can be done in the freezer to speed up the process).
Another tip is to thin down the American buttercream with a little extra milk before applying onto the mesh stencil.
